How to be a part of the 2016 General Conference

In a matter of weeks, the Upper New York Conference delegation to General Conference will leave for Portland, Ore., to join hundreds of other United Methodists from around the world in worship, decision-making, and countless other activities. As the top decision-making body of The United Methodist Church gathers, there will be news and information coming out that will directly and indirectly impact your local church. Unfortunately, locating this information can be a challenge.
This General Conference year, the UNY Conference Communications Ministry Area hopes to make it as simple as possible to find the information you will be looking for. Leading up to and during General Conference, being held May 10-20, the Conference website and social media will become a hub for all things General Conference.
The Conference website will serve as a portal for the most important news, information, and updates coming out of General Conference with a UNY flavor. The newsfeed and the slider on the front page of the website will be dominated by news items that are being written, updated, or reposted reflecting issues that impact The United Methodist Church, the UNY Conference, and your local church.
The website will also point to resources from the General Church, including the live stream and the legislation tracker.
Perhaps most importantly, the website will feature direct lines of communication with the UNY Conference delegation. A special “Perspectives” blog will be updated daily by members of the delegation who will share their direct experiences with the Conference. The delegation will also make use of Instagram to share their experiences visually.
General Conference is always an exciting time in the life of The United Methodist Church, and because we are a connected Church, what happens there has a direct impact on the lives and ministry of all of us. Be sure to stay updated though the Upper New York Conference website and hold all the delegates in prayer.
