    District Prayer Vigil

Day of Prayer for General Conference

General Conference (http://www.umc.org/topics/general-conference-2016) is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church which meets once every four years. The conference can revise church law, as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs.

The Upper New York Conference is participating in the 24 hour Prayer Vigil for General Conference on Saturday, April 23 to create a meaningful way for our delegates and church leaders to focus spiritually on their experience at the General Conference in Portland, Oregon from May 10-20.  We will pray that God will lead them in the decisions they are making for the future of our church.

It is our hope for the Niagara Frontier District churches to present this to their congregation to get people to participate in praying for our leaders, either in their own church or to come to First Church, Niagara Falls.  First Church will be open for the entire 24 hour vigil for anyone who wants to come to pray.

First UMC, Niagara Falls has agreed to host some special activities during the hours from 8 am to 8 pm.  You can have quiet prayer in the Sanctuary with reading material and prayer guides available, make prayer beads or other meditative-based crafts to send to our delegates in a craft room or use another room where you can pray through song (music leader should be available). We want you to be able to pray in any way that is meaningful to you.

Our goal is to have at least one person praying each hour on April 23, at a location of your choice or at First Church, Niagara Falls. You may use this link (http://doodle.com/poll/dcrhzinns7qd4uri) to select the time(s) you will be in prayer. Please include a phone number or e-mail address with your name. More than one person can sign up for each hour. If you want to make prayer beads at First UMC, please contact them at the number below so they can have enough materials. You are welcome to pass this message on to anyone you think might like to participate.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Julie Maciejewski in the District Office at 716-276-8631, Deanna Crawford or Kathy Masur at First UMC, Niagara Falls at 716-283-3370.

    Bless you.
