    Catch the Spirit

January 12, 2016 / By Beth Holdridge / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Catch the Spirit 2016 will be held at Clarence UMC on Saturday, February 20. This is our district workshop day where you can come for training, worship, fellowship and fun! Take a look at https://www.unyumc.org/images/uploads/2016_C_T_S_brochure.pdf for all the workshop descriptions and registration form. New this year – there will be two sessions for “Stop Hunger Now” in the afternoon (see information below). The cost is $20 which includes a morning and afternoon workshop, worship and lunch (no discount if you only sign up for one workshop). If you only want to come for “Stop Hunger Now,” the cost is $10 (no lunch).

Stop Hunger Now!  For the last two years at Annual Conference, many members of the Upper New York Annual Conference have volunteered for this fun and exciting missional opportunity.  As you may have heard at your charge conferences, the Niagara Frontier District Board of Laity is offering a workshop for Stop Hunger Now.  We will be running this from 2:30-4:30 pm on February 20 at Catch the Spirit.  We are very excited to be offering this missional outreach that will help feed people in need around the world.  See the Stop Hunger Attachment for more information.

Volunteers set up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets, and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck.

Meal-packaging events are a great way to educate volunteers about global hunger and inspire them to get more involved in fighting it. The events also give volunteers hands-on experience in leadership development, team-building, relationship-building, creative problem-solving, and goal-setting and achievement. (Information from stophungernow.org)

There is a cost associated with this, however, and we are asking for congregations to assist in making this a reality. Our goal is to do 10,152 meals. We need to raise about $3,400 to cover all expenses. If you or anyone in your church can help, any donation is appreciated. Please send donations for this to the district office (address below).

Checks should be made out to UNYAC, and in the memo, please note that it is for Niagara Frontier Stop Hunger Now.
