Text (provided with course)
Dancing with Words, Storytelling as Legacy, Culture, and Faith by Ray Buckley
While teaching all of us the importance of our own stories as well an encouraging respect for others' stories, Ray Buckley provides a compilation of the experiences of generations of men and women whose stories reveal their histories, their cultures, and their faith. Participants will learn to tell a story from personal experience, retell a parable of Jesus, relate a personal account of a spiritual event, and tell a story during the final session. Please read the entire book before attending the first class.
Who Should Take This Course:
Storytelling is an invitation. It is an invitation to experience the world of the storyteller, but also an invitation to enter into the story and make it your own. Storytelling is not just the telling of a story but a welcoming into a place of trust, imagination, and personal encounter. It can be an intimate and emotional experience. The sharing of a story is a welcoming. Storytelling in a faith community is also an invitation to know God. We are pray-ers of stories. We will share a time of learning, laughing, sharing, and telling your story. It will be an exciting adventure!
